The Milliner Lockdown Challenge – Jane Cameron
As you may know we are running a fun questionnaire for milliners to complete and share a bit about themselves to the wider community. If you would like to take part just click here.
So far we have had milliners from the UK, Spain, Brazil and now Australia with Jane Cameron. So over to you Jane.
Who are you?
My name is Jane Cameron. I’m a part-time Milliner and Pharmacist from Geelong, Australia. Plus single mother of 2 boys, 17 and 19.
How are you and your loved ones coping at the moment?
Pretty well, loving all the online sharing with regard to millinery. Still working as a pharmacist as normal and 1 son doing his electrical apprenticeship working normally too. Just a lot of hand washing! Other son is home schooling and eating A LOT!
What are you most worried about?
What’s going to happen to all our economies at the end of all this. When do we start to address the real issues about the plague of humans on the planet!
Tell us a little bit about your interest in millinery.
I was ‘encouraged’ not pursue any career that was artistic in anyway. After many years of interest in sewing and craft of all kinds, I started to become interested in racing fashion. Started doing Fashions on the field competitions and loved it. Eventually I studied millinery at the Melbourne School of Fashion and then was mentored my Serena Lindeman. Unfortunately after getting divorced I had to go back to Pharmacy to pay the bills. I just make things for friends and myself now.
If you could pick one celebrity to wear one of your hats who would it be and why?
Definitely Princess Kate! That girl can really rock a hat.
What was the last film you watched?
The Help- loved it!
What was the last book that you read?
‘The courage to be disliked’ by Ichiro Kishimi and Fumitake Koga
If you could invite three people to dinner, past or present, who would they be and why would you invite them?
Ricky Gervais – I just love that wit.
Michael Macintyre – hilarious!
Malcolm Burt – my most beautiful and favourite customer of all time, he passed away last year.
Tell us a guilty pleasure you have.
Name a luxury in your life you can’t do without?
My 2 dogs Pepsi and Max. Pets are a luxury these days! They are mini Schnauzer Poodle crosses and I love them so much it hurts.
Thanks Jane, great answers!
Jon & Anjee.
