Before & After – The Power of Retouching.

Retouching is a digital process using very powerful set of tools that are used in the beauty and fashion industry although it can be done on any genre typically using a tool such as Photoshop. Such is the dominance of Photoshop that, like Google, it has become a byword for something.

I retouch not to change an image but to add finesse and make it commercially more impactful.

Retouching opens up limitless options to help you enhance your brand.

The risk with retouching is that it can be overdone or not done well. There are also many apps that can do basic retouching but to do it properly requires the skill of a professional retoucher. The retouch should be both natural, subtle and believable with a desired outcome that your hats are desired even more.

I break an image down into various compartments; the hat, the model, the light, the capture then the retouch. The best way to explain what I mean by retouching is to share images below of what we did for two hats made by Bink at Pearls & Swine.

At first glance there may seem to be little difference but as your eye adjusts to the comparison you will see richer colours, brighter and warmer skin and flyaway hair removed.

This is the difference a professional retoucher can make and what is good enough for Gaga to Gucci is good enough for you especially as it is affordable.

When we photograph hats for milliners we provide the client with all the image files but we also include one professionally retouched image per hat of your choosing.
